DETROIT (May 25, 2023) – The Rocket Mortgage Classic today announced the worlds of professional golf, football, hockey, basketball and WWE will collide on Tuesday, June 27 when the AREA 313 Celebrity Scramble tees off as part of Detroit Community Days.

Pro Football Hall of Famers Barry Sanders and Calvin Johnson, Red Wings All-Star forward Dylan Larkin and Naismith Basketball Hall of Famer Tom Izzo will return to the Celebrity Scramble, and will be joined by two newcomers to the marquee event – former Michigan basketball and NBA star Chris Webber and WWE Superstar “The Miz.”

The Rocket Mortgage Classic is Detroit’s only PGA TOUR event and returns to Detroit Golf Club for its fifth year June 27-July 2. Tickets for Thursday-Sunday competition rounds are available at RocketMortgageClassic.com.

The AREA 313 Celebrity Scramble - awarded the PGA TOUR’s “Best Special Event” after its debut in 2019 - will be held Tuesday, June 27 at 5 p.m. at Detroit Golf Club. It is one of the many special events being held during Detroit Community Days, which offer complimentary admission and parking to the Rocket Mortgage Classic on Tuesday as well as Wednesday, June 28.

The AREA 313 Celebrity Scramble pits six four-player teams against each other in a three-hole exhibition match over holes 14 through 16 at Detroit Golf Club (AREA 313). PGA TOUR stars captain each team and are grouped with celebrity athletes and entertainers, players from THE JOHN SHIPPEN National Golf Invitational presented by Rocket Mortgage and corporate partners. Additional Celebrity Scramble participants will be announced in the coming weeks.

While Sanders, Johnson, Larkin and Izzo have established themselves as regular participants in the AREA 313 Celebrity Scramble, Webber and The Miz will make their debut appearances at Detroit Golf Club next month.

Webber led Detroit Country Day School to three MHSAA State championships before taking Michigan to the NCAA title game in consecutive seasons as a member of the Wolverines’ “Fab Five.” He was the first overall pick in the 1993 NBA draft, played 17 seasons in the league and was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2021.

The Miz is an actor and television personality who got his start on “The Real World: Back to New York” before parlaying that fame to professional wrestling. He became a WWE champion when he beat Randy Orton in 2010, and 11 years later garnered his second WWE title by defeating Drew McIntrye. The Miz also hosts the popular WWE talk show “Miz TV,” and stars in his own primetime reality show alongside his wife and daughters.

“We’re looking forward to introducing a new twist to the AREA 313 Celebrity Scramble by adding Chris Webber and The Miz to our field. It’s always fun to see Detroit sports legends up close and personal testing their golf games alongside PGA TOUR pros, and having a professional wrestler in the mix this year will make it even more entertaining,” said Jason Langwell, Executive Director of the Rocket Mortgage Classic. “We are proud to be able to offer fans complimentary admission to all the amazing events on Detroit Community Days as part of our dedication to making the Rocket Mortgage Classic accessible to everyone in our communities.”

As part of Detroit Community Days, fans can take advantage of complimentary parking and admission to enjoy two additional special events during the week.

On Tuesday, June 27 at 2 p.m., the First Tee - Greater Detroit Youth Clinic will provide elementary- and middle school-age students an opportunity to learn fundamental golf skills and tips from PGA TOUR professionals. In addition to the PGA TOUR players demonstrating a variety of shots and competing in a skills challenge, the kids attending the clinic will also get a chance to ask questions, interact with some of Detroit’s favorite sports mascots and win free prizes.

On Wednesday, June 28, fans can get up close to the action and watch PGA TOUR professionals playing in a relaxed setting throughout the day during the Delta Dental Pro-Am at the Rocket Mortgage Classic.

Fans interested in attending the competition Thursday through Sunday are encouraged to buy their Rocket Mortgage Classic tickets early for the best prices. All Rocket Mortgage Classic tickets are digital and day-specific. Grounds tickets start at $65 per day, with LendingTree Lounge passes beginning at $110 and Club Ace passes starting at $300.

All kids 15 and under receive complimentary admission to the Rocket Mortgage Classic when accompanied by a ticketed adult (up to four kids per adult) Thursday-Sunday. No ticket is required for kids to enter. Admission and parking for the final round of THE JOHN SHIPPEN National Invitational is complimentary for all fans on Sunday, June 25.

The Rocket Giving Fund – the nonprofit host organization of the Rocket Mortgage Classic – in partnership with title sponsor Rocket Mortgage, raised more than $1.57 million through the 2022 Rocket Mortgage Classic to support local nonprofits. In its first four years, the event has invested more than $6.8 million into nonprofit organizations, including more than $3.8 million through the Changing the Course initiative to end the digital divide in Detroit.
